Hot on the heels of their recently released mini-expedition The Electrifying Incident, Draknek & Friends announced today that Spooky Express, a haunted sequel to the track-laying puzzle game Cosmic Express, is coming to Steam sometime this year.
I sometimes feel redundant telling you about Draknek's reputation in the puzzle game scene as often as I do, but each time could be someone's first time hearing about our genre's patron saint, so I feel it is my duty to spread the gospel: Alan Hazelden's studio has produced some of the most polished, challenging and significant puzzle games around, including A Monster's Expedition and Bonfire Peaks in addition to the previously mentioned Cosmic Express, not to mention publishing lots of other modern classics.
Spooky Express is pulling into the station as a creepy-gothic-follow-up to Cosmic, one of my personal favorite puzzle games ever, so I'm quite excited about this announcement. As the trailer shows off, we'll be directing our bony locomotive through cemeteries crawling with all manner of ghoulish creatures, shepherding draculas back to their coffins and zombies to their graves. Meanwhile the human passengers just want to make it out alive...
You can wishlist Spooky Express on Steam now, and if you want to get a sense of the train-track logic dilemmas in store, you can play the mash-up title Sokobond Express from 2024, or the original Cosmic Express (which I can personally attest plays great on a touchscreen device like iPad).
