Picture a grid of Scrabble-style letter tiles, but some of them are equipped with unique powers that let them slide around the board, push other letters, or detonate and destroy others nearby. Add in a bit of a desert-town pixel art theme and you've pretty much got the picture of what's going on in Spellsy, coming soon to Steam.
It's a combination that immediately "makes sense" when you witness it in action. Reconfiguring and manipulating letters around a board suddenly gives you new interesting options. You'll need to plan your path through the grid of tiles that you start with each level: every letter must be used to spell a word, or disposed of in some other way.
The game looks simple in a way that I often appreciate when it comes to puzzles; I can grasp the space they're thinking in and what it might feel like to play, where things might go as the mechanics and puzzles get more advanced. Spellsy doesn't have a release window or date yet, but there is a demo available now on Steam. Here are the features advertised on the game's page:
- Spell words to clear the grid – Connect letters in any direction to form words and remove tiles.
- Dynamic tile mechanics – Push, explode, slide, and react through a variety of special block types.
- Puzzle-first design - Over 100+ handcrafted puzzles that reward smart play and experimentation.
- Undo and retry freely – Experiment without fear, every action can be rewound and rethought without penalty.
- Unlimited hinting – Get gentle nudges or full solutions so you never stay stuck.
- No Pressure - No timers or high scores, so you can focus, relax, and puzzle at your own pace.
