A videogame version of the popular physical puzzle-book LOK from designer Blaž Urban Gracar is in the works. This was first announced some time ago, but yesterday we got a few big updates: puzzle aficionados Draknek & Friends revealed they’ll be publishing the game, and dropped a new trailer and Steam demo along with the announcement. Check out the slick new trailer below:

LOK is an interesting game to describe. It’s a mostly instruction-less puzzle game, meaning you need to deduce and discover for yourself many of the rules as you play, and this cryptic nature and careful, hands-off guidance is where a lot of the fun and magic comes from. You’re presented with a grid of letter tiles on each page, and introduced to the mysterious “LOK” species who need your help to thrive in this environment. As you play you’ll come to learn how to make specific words that grant mechanical powers, leading to new surprises and realizations. LOK Digital will bring this same enigmatic experience to a wider audience on Steam.

I haven’t personally played the new Steam demo yet, but the original puzzle book was one of my favorite game experiences in the last couple years. If you love physical-format games and thinky puzzles, definitely check it out. Blaz has some other great physical designs too, including Abdec, another puzzle book in a similar vein to LOK.

LOK Digital is currently aiming for a 2024 release, and you can wishlist or play the demo now on Steam, or check out the game’s official website. Keep your eye out for future news about a release date.
