The Lovecraftian sequel to the popular and critically acclaimed Call of the Sea has officially announced a release date next month alongside a new trailer. Call of the Elder Gods will take the series to new uncharted places, even darker and more mysterious than last time:
The first game was a visually impressive first-person tale set among mysterious island ruins in the 1930s, and was praised for both its puzzle gameplay and its emotional delivery of the story of Join Norah searching for her lost husband. This new entry moves away from the oceanic setting into dusty studies and libraries, remnants of ancient underground structures and other locales both impossible and otherworldly.
Elder Gods wears its inspiration on its cover: you'll take the reins as Professor Harry Everhart and Evangeline Drayton as they delve into mysteries, "search for the truth about their missing loved ones and come face-to-face with beings beyond their understanding". The games have a first-person perspective and focus on exploring your environments and solving puzzles to progress the story, sometimes in a very escape-room style and sometimes more like stumbling upon cryptic objects and artifacts out of MYST.
You can find Call of the Elder Gods on Steam where its launching May 12th, and you can play a free demo of the First Chapter anytime you like. The game will also be launching on Playstation 5 and current-gen Xbox consoles. If you're curious enough to start the saga from the beginning, the Steam version of first game Call of the Sea is currently discounted by 75%.
