Help make this digital window-overlapping puzzle game a reality: Tabula is seeking funding on Kickstarter now

Corey Hardt, 8 May 2026

By overlapping segments of top-down levels to create paths to all the required checkpoints, you'll solve levels inside a strange operating system infected with a bizarre virus. This is the premise of Tabula, an indie puzzle game that's (hopefully) coming to Steam in the near future if the team can meet their funding goals with their current Kickstarter campaign:

With a crunchy pixel-art meets retro-computing aesthetic (with some wacky flair thrown in for fun), Tabula joins together a few ideas we've seen floating around the puzzle world in the last few years, marrying the piecing-together of levels reminiscent of titles like Piece by Piece with the alternate-reality operating system concept that brings to mind Crossroad OS. The Kickstarter page advertises a variety of applications will unlock as you aid your little anti-virus friend against malicious digital counterparts, including email-sleuthing and minigames.

Tabula has been a work in progress for a few years now and apparently already contains myriad puzzles, with some of the mechanical twists you'll encounter being shown off in the campaign, like tethered windows that can't move freely and objects that won't play nice when you try to overlap them.

Interestingly the "multiple solutions to every puzzle" approach is another bullet point they've shared, going as far as to say that players will likely discover unintended solutions that the developers didn't plan for. This is pretty unusual in the world of enthusiast puzzle games, many of which favor very specific unique solutions in order to guide you through the twists and turns of their logic via particular realizations. We'll have to see how this more open-ended creative approach pans out for them.

You can currently back Tabula on Kickstarter to help make the team's full vision for the game possible: they've got around 18 days to go and have gathered something like 20% of their goal so far, and I imagine every bit of support will be important for getting there.
