Crack the code to discover the release date for The Rise of the Golden Idol's next DLC

Corey Hardt, 29 April 2025

The Golden Idol team have been sharing some very cryptic encoded messages on social media this week, and deciphering them reveals new info about what to expect from the next Golden Idol Investigations DLC, a series of planned expansions for the latest entry in the award-winning detective game saga.

In two posts across various social platforms, Color Gray Games have teased new details about the next upcoming DLC installment after March's Sins of New Wells, including the names of some new cases and the impending release date. In keeping with the themes of their genre, curious detectives will need to put in a little mental effort to unlock the content of the messages: they each come in the form of a cipher that needs decoding.

The first cipher hides the names of some new mystery cases you'll encounter in the next DLC installment, and the newest one from today reveals the release date. If you need some help or hints decrypting the texts (or just want the answers), I'm sure you can find plenty of savvy sleuths to assist you over on our Discord...

Here's a closer look at the release date teaser if you'd like to have a go yourself:

We've known for some time that there are four Golden Idol Investigations DLC packs planned for this year, each comprised of several new cases to work your way through. Since the first entry The Sins of New Wells debuted in early March, the only real info we've had about the next in the series was this description:

Travel to Lemuria and investigate a deep reaching conspiracy that has infiltrated the upper echelons of Lemurian aristocracy and its King. Mingle with new age cults, gurus with potentially supernatural powers and charlatans that just want to scam westerners in Codename: [REDACTED].

You can get Rise of the Golden Idol and the first DLC The Sins of New Wells on Steam, and if you plan on playing all of the Investigations DLC series you can get a Detective Pass which offers the whole ongoing collection at a reduced price.
