Wax Heads

Wax Heads is an upcoming music-themed detective game set in a record shop. As a retail worker, you’ll have to listen to customers' requests and find the albums that fit them best, using clues given in dialogue and in the descriptions of the albums in stock. Wax Heads is a cozy game with colorful, cartoony art, original music from made-up artists, and silly, tongue-in-cheek narrative that ties it all together.

On your first day working at a record shop owned by a washed-up 80s musician, you’ll have to help a bunch of customers looking for recommendations. Throughout the shop, you’ll find records that range from hardcore punk to bubblegum pop. You can click on each record to see a description or flip it over to view the track list. Though the artists were all created for the game, you’ll often find references to real musicians. When you find the perfect recommendation, you can add it to the customer’s cart and help them check out.

Wax Heads certainly falls into the casual category. Much like in Strange Horticulture, there’s no time limit, meaning you can slack off at work and take a look at your in-game phone. You can see what different characters are up to from a social media app and a messaging app. And the music app lets you listen to some of the songs from the albums the shop carries.
