Sustain the growth of a forest fungus using clueless zombies as fuel.
Mycelium Heaven is a stepping puzzle game about a mushroom spreading across the forest to consume every single zombie. The gameplay revolves around careful management of the mushroom’s energy, which is fully restored whenever you eat a zombie so you can maintain its ravenous cycle. Mycelium Heaven brings a touch of turn-based tactics to grid-based puzzles.
Each puzzle comes in the form of a grid with cells containing zombies, and at least one cell containing mushrooms. You can spend one energy point to infect any cell adjacent to a mushroom cell. Once a cell is infected, you can spend another energy point to grow mushrooms on it, effectively spreading the mycelium further across the grid.
Your goal is to consume as many zombies (or zombie parts) as specified in the level. To consume something, you need to grow mushrooms on the cell where that something lies, which means you need to spend at least two energy points for everything you eat. However, the game requires you to operate under a maximum of three energy points at all times, so you only get to perform one "free" action per cycle and thus need to carefully manage your resources.
The mechanics of the game primarily involve movement variations and turn-based enemies, making it mostly trial and error as it is extremely hard to anticipate everything. However, this is a strategic kind of trial and error as you know you can't waste a single energy and need to optimize as much as possible. Mycelium Heaven may not be a purely logical puzzle game, but its core principle helps you forge a pretty strong intuition instead.
Mycelium Heaven has no explicit tutorial, instead it lets you discover how everything works through small levels. Combined with its trial and error nature, it might be a bit rough for some people, especially puzzle beginners.
