Blue Prince is well on its way to being the best puzzle game of 2025, but that doesn’t mean the game is free from certain quirks. Dogubomb’s puzzle enigma can often be as frustrating as it is fascinating. The game’s RNG can feel like it’s working against you, cryptic clues can seem impossible to solve, and the shapeshifing design of the game means you’re constantly having to find your feet.
This sentiment hits hardest when you’re first starting out, and believe me, I’ve been there. But if you get over that initial friction, the game begins to reveal its true nature, and soon, the Blue Prince's more abrasive qualities become less of a roadblock and something you can master.
However, I wish I had some light pointers when starting, so this article is exactly that. You won’t find solutions here, but spoiler-free tips that will nudge you in the right direction. So read on, free from worry that you’ll get jump-scared with spoilers.
A quick note: These are tips for those who have not found Room 46.
Focus on play sessions, not individual runs
This is my number one piece of advice. When playing Blue Prince, it’s easy to slip into a mindset of efficiency when playing a game with rouguelike mechanics. Blue Prince’s RNG is the thing that players struggle with the most. My answer to this is to change the way you approach the game.
Thinking in terms of 'good' and 'bad' runs will not help you here. Instead, focus on what you’ve learned in each play session. This takes the pressure and expectation away from always having a loop result in discovering new. Juggling multiple clues, solutions, and mysteries is part of the game, and trying to approach it sequentially isn't going to work. There are ways to permanently make the RNG more manageable, but until then, you’ll need to embrace the game's randomness as an opportunity to learn something new, and there's always something to discover. Go into a day ready to pressure multiple - even conflicting - objectives. It's key to be flexible in what you're trying to achieve and even if you only find something small, take it as a win.
Pick rooms you’ve never drafted before
When a new room crops up in your trio of options, draft it! Even if it doesn't fit into your 'goal' of that particular run or ends the run altogether, build it. You can easily slip into the habit of choosing rooms you're familiar with, but taking a chance on a room you've never seen before - even deadends - will fuel your curiosity as, in my experience, there'll be something interesting in there. Don't fall into routine - routine is Blue Prince's mortal enemy.
Have a notebook ready
This one is a little obvious, but I’ve never played a puzzle game where it's as vital as with Blue Prince. Anything that will let you take detailed notes - I'm talking spreadsheets, coloured pens, a mind map of sticky notes, a journal, you do you. A single side of A4 won't cut it. When I first started playing, I thought I could just screenshot important information, and I would be fine, but as I began to make connections, screenshots were not cutting it. I still recommend screenshotting EVERYTHING so you can refer back to clues and information, but if you start with a detailed and organised note-taking system from the game's early hours, your future self will weep with thanks.
Open all three doors in the Entrance Hall to plan the best course of action
A strategy I now use in every run is to open all three rooms in the Entrance Hall and plan my run based on what rooms I draw. For example, if two of the rooms I’ve drafted have lots of doors, giving me options on how to progress forward, I use the third Entrace Hall room as an opportunity to pick a ‘dead end’ room that houses resources. This way, you can push into the mansion with a pocket of keys, gems, and coins to help you from the get-go.
No time limit, no pressure
More of an FYI, but do not feel pressured to feel like each run has to be efficient because of a time limit. As far as I know, there isn't one. I’m 70 hours in and have yet to hit any timed roadblock or limit; the same goes for folks I know who have hit the 100-hour mark. If you’re frustrated with a run, call it a day and start again! Again, from all the hours I've put in, the game has yet to punish me for how many days I've racked up. Some players will want to make every single one count, but I would restart the day for the smallest reason, so loop away!
If you can't solve a puzzle, come back later
A tale as old as time, but it's a tried and true formula. If you're getting stuck on a particular puzzle, take a breather and return later. Frying your brain isn't the only reason to walk away, Blue Prince scatters all sorts of hints and clues for solving puzzles throughout its manor. I was finding hints for puzzles that I had solved hours before.
Don't avoid dead ends
Drafting dead ends isn't just a way of getting handy resources, but drafting them early on in a run means they get removed from your draft pool for that run. This is vital when you make your way further into the mansion, and drawing rooms with multiple doors becomes important for progression. A mistake that I kept falling into early on was avoiding drafting dead ends, but you need to embrace them! The perfect spot for a dead end is a snug corner.
