Two significant thinky releases have lined up and landed today, March 4th: Ligo is a gravity-warping, creature-combining puzzle adventure that's been in development a number of years, and The Sins of New Wells is the first in a series of expected DLC releases for the hit detective game The Rise of the Golden Idol, introducing 4 new cases for you to sleuth your way through.
The Sins of New Wells is the first set of follow-up cases being added to the original Rise of the Golden Idol. Taking us to the "sinful" city of New Wells, we'll join Detective Roy and his new partner Cliff Savea as they investigate four new cases filled with homicide, drugs, and... potentially some Lemurian magic? Sounds like some real gritty noir stuff with a Golden Idol spin.
Color Gray Games have announced there will be at least four of these "Golden Idol Investigations" DLC releases, with the projection being that they'll release one each quarter for the rest of 2025. You can purchase New Wells today on its own for $5.99, or alternatively, if you're planning to play them all, you can get a Detective Pass that gives you access to all four DLC packs as they release, in addition to the game's soundtrack, at a discounted price.
In a more traditional "puzzle game" form factor, Ligo is our other new release today, a semi-platformer that deals with pushing blocks, gravity, and a species of little blob creatures that can be split apart and re-combined into new shapes by making clever use of level geometry. The game will take you through several worlds each introducing new mechanics and challenges into the mix.
Ligo has been on our collective puzzle-radar for quite some time, one of those extended-development projects that we've waited a long time to hear news about and have high hopes for. The music and vibes give a calm, Fez-like impression, and the 2D side-view presentation combined with the unique splitting-and-merging mechanics promise the potential for some real puzzling depth.
You can get Ligo on Steam now for $14.99, with a launch discount of 10% until March 18th.
