You now have two big puzzle experiences to look forward to about a month from now: both The Talos Principle: Reawakened and Blue Prince have dropped new trailers announcing specific release dates, and in both cases that date happens to be April 10th. Let's take a look at each of them:
First up is Blue Prince, a game that definitely has some pre-release buzz building up behind it. In this first-person "architectural adventure" (with a very tongue-in-cheek title) you'll be exploring the mysterious and atmospheric Mt. Holly estate left to you in the passing of a family patriarch. You'll be drafting room tiles (on your actual drafting table) to construct the house as you move through it, choosing which 3D environment to explore next, using tools and clues to solve puzzles. A very unique and intriguing concept.
Blue Prince promises a mix of strategy, puzzles and mystery narrative as you make your way deeper into the manor in search of the secret and elusive 46th room hidden somewhere within this "ever-changing house of shifting rooms." Just this past week the game won the "Most Anticipated" award in our very own 2nd annual Thinky Awards. There's a demo available on Steam now ahead of the April 10th release date.
Next we come to The Talos Principle: Reawakened, the latest in a puzzle franchise that you've surely heard of by now. The original Talos, the sequel from 2023, and the various DLCs that accompany each game make up one of the biggest and most recognizable first-person puzzle games series in recent times. Their various robo-human-philosophy story lines filled with lasers and puzzle cubes and tertrominoes have left their mark on the thinky landscape.
This latest entry is a big "definitive edition" remaster/remake of the original game in the series, featuring all new graphics, a full-featured puzzle editor, the expansion Road to Gehenna as well as an entirely new chapter called "In the Beginning." Talos was already a very pretty game, and this overhaul looks to bring the world up to current-generation levels of detail. But for many, I suspect the interesting part of this new release will be that new chapter of puzzle levels on offer.
Just like Blue Prince, Talos Reawakened has a demo available to play on Steam now, and the whole game will arrive April 10th.
