It hasn't been much of a wait: just over two months since the release of The Lemurian Phoenix, the next installment in the Golden Idol Investigations series of DLC is suddenly here. Explore an ancient, high-tech Lemuria in this new expansion The Age of Restraint which brings four new cases to the world of the hit detective game The Rise of the Golden Idol.
Color Gray Games have pulled a fast one on us. Only a few days ago they started teasing strange new images which led up to a release announcement: The Age of Restraint just dropped today on Steam. There's something that feels appropriate about doing a surprise reveal for mystery-detective games; it somehow adds to the overall vibe of mystique and intrigue.
This is the latest release under the umbrella of Golden Idol Investigations, a series of planned DLC packs that each bring several new cases to The Rise of the Golden Idol, the fan-favorite detective game that released in late 2024. Just like previous installments, The Age of Restraint takes place in a new unique setting and uses the opportunity to string together several new mysteries in an overall plot somehow tied thematically to this fresh time and place.
This time we're transported to an ancient version of Lemuria, where high-tech alien technology seems to be everywhere and "lying is nearly impossible," whatever that means. There looks to be much ado about robots, out-of-control experiments, forbidden artefacts... all par for the course when it comes to typical Golden Idol hijinks.
You can get the new DLC The Age of Restraint on Steam now, and you'll need The Rise of the Golden Idol to play it. There's also a Detective Pass option, which will save you money in the long run if you're planning on buying and playing all four of the planned DLC releases.
