The Incident at Galley House is a newly announced remaster of an eerie mystery game from the creators of The Roottrees are Dead

Corey Hardt, 18 June 2025

After the success of the big commercial Steam launch of The Roottrees are Dead, the developers have announced they're hard at work on their next project: a remake of another popular detective webgame called Type Help. Here's the new trailer for the project, which is being rebranded as The Incident at Galley House:

The original Type Help is a free game playable in browser, and the creator William Rous cites Roottrees as a direct inspiration. Following the example of that detective-puzzle-mystery, Type Help tasks you with digging through archives using a digital interface to slowly uncover and piece together evidence to crack a case.

This time around you're hoping to learn exactly what occurred in a deadly incident many years ago at a manor called Galley House, after guests were mysteriously summoned to a bloody crime scene. And you'll do so by manipulating a strange and cryptic memory-machine.

Here are the enhancements to the original boasted on the Galley House Steam page:

  • An all-new, fully illustrated visual novel presentation
  • Full professional voice acting
  • A mysterious 3D interface for navigating memories
  • An eerie original soundtrack
  • New content, puzzles, and pathways to explore

The Roottrees are Dead was a big hit, and one of our favorite new detective games in years. We were so excited to see it get a commercial upgrade and wider release, and it's wonderful news that the team is continuing the trend with a new remaster project. Is it possible we're currently watching the birth of a new, long-running studio producing some of the best detective games out there? Here's hoping.

For now, you can wishlist The Incident at Galley House on Steam, or dive into the original free version Type Help on itch.io if you can't wait for the fresh new coat of paint to dry.
