In addition to writing about puzzle game news, one of the other hats I wear (and one of my favorite hats) is as a co-founder and organizer of an annual game-making event that has become something much of the community looks forward to: the Confounding Calendar is an advent calendar of small puzzle web-games, all made by community members, curated by us, and hosted on itch.io.
December is underway, so every day from now until the end of the year you'll find new games waiting for you on the Calendar page. Every game is only a single level, the idea being to keep them short and sweet: a daily ritual that can surprise and amuse you for a few minutes. We've received a wonderful variety of playful experiences this year and can't wait to share them all with you.
The first two days this year feature a miniature pipe-pushing dilemma and a lovely little cryptic word puzzle, which is a favorite of mine. I hope you'll keep checking back as the month rolls on to see what other surprises we have in store.
If the pace is a little slow for you and you're hungry for more compact puzzles, I have good news: all 3 previous years of Calendar games are still accessible by scrolling further down the page, and there are hundreds to choose from. So much wonderful creativity and so many head-scratching dilemmas live in that treasure trove of games.
The Confounding Calendar would be nothing if not for the enthusiasm and energy of all the game-makers and community members who get excited to contribute and participate each year, so from the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much. And we hope you'll enjoy the festivities. :)
