When Strange Horticulture released back in 2022, I was a big fan of its herbology-based puzzles. It's a spooky but cosy mystery game where you play as the custodian of a plant store tasked with helping customers with their requests, identifying strange plants, and potentially joining a local witch coven. For those who weren't quite done with the strange happenings in Undermere, developers Bad Viking have announced an equally spooky follow-up, Strange Antiquities. You can have a look at the launch trailer below:
Strange Antiquities loosely follows its predecessor, but instead of a plant shop, you're running an occult antique emporium. Part of your day-to-day involves hunting down objects, identifying what they are, and then using them to assist Undermere's locals with their problems.
This follow-up takes place several years after the first game but is a standalone adventure, so you don't have to worry about playing Strange Horticulture first (but we recommend it!). Bad Viking promises "a new adventure, filled with more mystery, puzzles, and dark twists and turns."
The trailer is light on gameplay, but what's interesting about this follow-up can be spotted in the screenshots. Objects can be observed using several different options, including "colour and composition", " sense of touch", "scent and sound", and lastly "inner perception" - that last one sounds a little creepy. You also have your trusty occult book to identify each arcane item and what it can be used for. And lastly, don't forget to pet your cat.
No release date for Strange Antiquities yet, but if you love cosy, spooky deduction games then keep an eye on this one.
