Starting this week you'll be able to play a new Tiled Words puzzle daily in your browser or on mobile: use crossword-style hints to figure out how all these broken words fit back together. This fun twist on Wordle-style daily puzzling has been available to demo for some time now and I'm excited to see some new ones.
The game presents you with an entirely filled-in crossword grid, but it needs some re-assembling: all the words have been broken into pieces and scattered. Using the provided clues you have to put things back together, using your letter chunks to figure out one answer at a time, and making sure the tiles all connect up the way they're supposed to.
Below I've shown an easy practice-level puzzle without too many spoilers, which gives a pretty clear idea of what's going on: I've put some word-segments together to find one of the puzzle's answer words, and that clue has been checked off from the list. I bet just glancing at the other clues and the letters available you'll get some ideas about what needs to happen next.
There are some clever elements that really help turn this into a seamless and bite-sized daily puzzle without any frustration: you'll notice that, just like in a standard crossword, the clues tell you what direction the words need to be spelled, which is a huge help to orienting your grid and eliminating possibilities. I've quite enjoyed the puzzles I've dipped into so far.
You can play Tiled Words now (and every day) in your browser on either PC or mobile.
