I was lucky enough to check out Rytmos, the new musical puzzle game from Floppy Club. It blends music and puzzle-solving in a beautiful marriage that makes for a relaxing and enjoyable experience, and it’s out today!

Rytmos is a game all about smooth gameplay and even smoother jams. In this musical puzzle game, players will solve maze-like puzzles that take place on the surface of colorful cubic planets whilst simultaneously creating music loops that combine and evolve into beautiful music. The game has you “solving” each face of the cube planet by drawing straight lines across the planet’s surface, only stopping when you reach an edge. You’ll then need to connect your line with multiple nodes, each contributing a musical element to the planet’s generative soundtrack.

You’ll do this across multiple solar systems, each themed around a specific period and style of music, including Japanese environmental music, 70s German electronic, and Hawaiian, to name a few. Each new setting introduces new puzzle mechanics, like moveable ice blocks to create buffers for your lines and new musical motifs. These changes are significant enough to keep things feeling fresh the whole time.

I immensely enjoyed my time with Rytmos. The puzzles were not too taxing, striking a nice balance between relaxing and engaging. The music was a stellar compliment to the game’s more relaxed vibe and made each solar system feel exciting and unique. I also learned a few things thanks to the game’s inclusion of fun facts about each music genre, including their origins, noteworthy musicians, and other tidbits. I learned something and had a good time doing it: the perfect kind of thinky.
