Lucas Pope of Papers, Please and Thinky Game favourite Return of the Obra Dinn has released a free pocket-sized game on itch.io called Moida Mansion. It's a Game & Watch-style mystery game where you're tasked with helping your trapped friends escape a creepy mansion while steering clear of a shadowy monster that wants you dead. It's short, sweet and a lot of fun!
Playing as one of several members of The Adventure Club, you're tasked with searching each of the mansion's rooms in hopes of finding your friends who have been shut away inside different pieces of furniture. As you explore each room you need to look and listen carefully for noises that will tell you where your friends are trapped.
You then need to press the search button to cycle through the objects on the screen until you have selected the item you want to search and hopefully - after some tense waiting - a friend will be set free! If you search an area too many times you'll attract the monster's attention. They'll appear on screen and you'll have to run away, returning to that room later.
That's a charming enough premise on its own, but what makes Moida Mansion great are the locks, secrets, and hidden passageways hidden around the mansion. You'll need to find keys to open doors and codes to open boxes in some light puzzle-solving. There are also moments where you might have to follow ghostly footprints that will lead you to a friend's location or ask some house sprites for help - looks like not all the mansion's residents are unfriendly.
