A cute new daily word game has surfaced, and you can play an example puzzle now ahead of its official launch. Tiled Words gives you a bunch of fragmented letter-chunks that need to be re-assembled into words... which you'll do with some guidance from the provided crossword-style clues. Once everything is grouped together again and all the clues have been solved, you've done your job.
It's a wonderfully simple combination of crosswords and letter-tile style games where you need to build words out of smaller components. How do we take some of the stodgy, old, trivia-centric energy out of crossword puzzles and get new people interested in them? Let's give them some partial answers they can fiddle around with on the grid.
The game plays very smoothly, giving you a couple different sources of information you can cross-reference to arrive at your solutions. I never felt stuck, and the whole affair took me somewhere between 5-10 minutes to finish (a perfect target for a daily puzzle game). The cute theme/title of the puzzle helped me out a bit as well.
This is an example of the one preview puzzle available to play now (and I tried to go easy with the spoilers) since the full daily game is still in the works. Each segment of letters can be rotated and moved around the grid, so you can try out different combinations while you're deciding how things need to fit together.
Once you've correctly built one of the answers to the clues, it'll update in color and the clue will be checked off the list to let you know you've found it. Then you just have to make sure your arrangement still allows you to assemble everything else you need. Find all the clue answers and arrange them in one big crossword-cluster and you've solved the puzzle.
The demo puzzle for Tiled Words can be played free now on the website, and you can also sign up there to be notified when the full daily version debuts soon.
