The retro-Zelda-inspired tropical puzzle game Isles of Sea and Sky was eagerly awaited: it won Most Anticipated honor at the Thinky Awards before debuting last year and successfully living up to the hype. Now the "Mysterious Update" has released, a free addition to the game bringing new puzzles and a mysterious secret layer to this pixel-art block-puzzler.
Developer Cicada Games released the new content yesterday on Steam, teasing that it features new "brain busting puzzles and mysteries". There's a new, extra-challenging collectible for die-hard puzzle enthusiasts who want to return to previous areas and puzzle levels and crack new hidden messages using the enigmatic Serpent Circlet.
Additionally, new meta-puzzles have been created to areas that were previously lacking them. (This is a term used by puzzle gamers to talk about puzzles that span multiple levels, where you need to sort of "break out" of the traditional level structure to solve them.) The update is also advertised to include "even deeper secrets that only the most dedicated secret hunters will be able to find." Some mystery in a puzzle game is always a welcome flavor, and a whole update themed around it is a treat.
If you really want to get all the info in one big dump rather than finding it out for yourself, the developer has shared a changelog for the update on Steam, but I can't help but smile at the final bullet point in this list which only reads "???"... turns out not every change is being revealed so easy after all.
Isles of Sea and Sky is available on Steam including the brand new update. The game is also on sale for the next 2 weeks to celebrate the content drop: a whopping 66% off the standard MSRP makes this quite a good deal for the amount of quality puzzling content you're getting. Go solve some island mysteries.
