March DLC for the discovery-exploration platformer Leap Year is out today

Corey Hardt, 28 February 2025

It's not very often we give dedicated attention to platformer games around here at Thinky Games, and that's partly because, to be honest, lots of them aren't really that thinky. Leap Year is a game that bucks that trend: it's perhaps one of the most truly learning-and-knowledge-centric platformer games ever made.

This 2024 release is seriously committed to its secrets and cryptic nature, letting the player puzzle out exactly how it's possible to overcome each room and new challenge as they slowly come to understand more about their abilities and the subtle quirks they can exploit. Today marks the release of a new chapter in the Leap Year saga, dropping one day before the titular month: the March DLC is available now on Steam. Here's the trailer:

March is described as a true post-game DLC: being aimed at those who have finished the original and hope for more, even trickier content. You'll continue to use all the knowledge you accumulated over the course of the first game's calendar month to explore a totally new, bigger and "more complex" world. Of particular interest to me is the humorous bullet point "A new way to die" on the list of features.

The original Leap Year was just recently featured in our very own (2nd annual) Thinky Awards, being nominated in several categories including "Most Innovative". You can check out the dedicated awards page to see all of the winners and nominees, and to watch the wonderful awards announcement video that Joe coordinated with help from our friend Ambierona.

Head over to Steam to grab the new DLC for Leap Year, which naturally requires the original game to play. Is it possible this is only the first installment in a whole calendar's worth of DLC chapters that mastermind Daniel Linssen has in store for us? We can only hope to be so lucky.
