Releasing today is a new puzzle game that places you in the role of an engineer working in a star factory. Developed by Ánimo Games and published by Astra Logical, Star Stuff is an automation game of programming cute robot helpers to assist you in performing various industrial tasks, in space.
Using an interface of simple logic blocks, you'll instruct bots to traverse levels while triggering switches, carrying objects, firing lasers and more, and then you'll run around the level working alongside them as they obediently carry out your instructions. The trailer shows off a number of components interacting in fun ways while also showcasing the playful, colorful world and bouncy soundtrack:
The thought of needing to synchronize your own actions with the automated processes you've set in motion sounds like a neat little twist on the usual "set it up and hit play" format that similar programming games often use. Examples like riding a robot around the level or a rotating laser triggering jump pads in sequence as your character bounces between them suggest lots of fun combinations.
I've heard through the puzzle-games-grapevine that some number of Star Stuff's 150+ puzzles were designed by the talented Steven Miller, a name that inspires confidence: Steven's been around in the scene for a while and has gained a reputation for making very satisfying and very tricky puzzles while keeping things elegant and compact. (We've featured several of his free games in our Thinky Games Club, including the brilliant Shackle.)
Star Stuff is out today on Steam, and if you'd like to try before you buy, there's a free demo available on the page. What are you waiting for? Those constellations aren't going to assemble themselves.
