Monument Valley is a series of puzzle games designed for mobile platforms which have always had a focus on gorgeous, minimal, Escher-esque visuals. Both the first and second games, originally released in 2014 and 2017, were very popular and praised for their simple, stripped-down presentation and elegant, geometry-twisting puzzles. (And both were eventually released on Steam in their Panoramic Editions.)
A third game in the series has been announced this week, coming to iOS and Android on December 10th this year, and notably, the game will be exclusively avaiable to Netflix subscribers. Watch the reveal trailer below to get a glimpse of how the developers are continuing to expand on their distinct style:
Here's a bit of what they're telling us to expect from the 3rd game:
Explore sprawling cities to quaint coastal towns, all reimagined into impossible geometry that defy the laws of physics. The game also features the most immersive worldbuilding in a Monument Valley game yet, with expansive natural landscapes, from gorgeous wheat fields to rising sea tides, all adding a new layer of depth to the iconic Monument Valley universe.
With an active Netflix subscription, you'll gain access to play Monument Valley 3 on iOS and Android when it launches on December 10th at no additional charge. This model of including games with the baseline subscription is something Netflix has been steadily expanding in the last few years. In addition to the new sequel, both previous Monument Valley titles will be arriving on Netflix as well, with staggered release dates:
- MONUMENT VALLEY - 19 September 2024
- MONUMENT VALLEY 2 - 29 October 2024
- MONUMENT VALLEY 3 - 10 December 2024
So whether they're new to you or perhaps carry a bit of nostalgia like they do for me, it looks like they're prompting us with an opportunity to play through the old games before the new one arrives later this year. You can visit the
