Craft your hyper-efficient factory from the smallest building blocks in the new demo for Modulus

Corey Hardt, 10 April 2025

Upcoming automation game Modulus launched its first demo this week and a new trailer to go along with it, showing off the game's construction process by walking backwards through the many steps it takes to go from raw material to networks of factories and conveyors. Check it out to see what the demo has in store:

It's evident that a lot of work has gone into the visual elements of the game: the zoomed-out views of busy factory floor layouts look gorgeous, intricately detailed yet very clean. I appreciate the effort made to squeeze in lots of greenery and trees between the conveyor belts in a genre that can sometimes trend towards looking very sterile, with such a focus on mechanical efficiency.

Modulus is doing similar things to other factory-automation games we've seen before, but with an emphasis on crafting each component and part from it's smallest pieces: they advertise you'll have "full creative control" about how to assemble little voxel-blocks into the required "modules", and then how you build those modules into structures and factories to further your overall plan and progress.

I chuckled at one reassuring statement on the Steam page, mostly because it felt tailored so perfectly to what I imagine our audience wants to hear about a game: "There are no timers, no enemies—just you and your factory." A very clear statement of intent that this will be a thinky experience indeed.

The team behind Modulus have not yet announced a release window, but we'll be sure to keep you abreast of new developments. For now you can play the demo and wishlist the game on Steam.
