We fell in love with the adorable creatures from LOK and LOK Digital, and now creator Blaž Urban Gracar is back with his latest offering — Abdec, a forgotten textbook featuring the mysterious Abb. These are creatures who use a language that resembles packing-puzzle pieces. In the lore of this game, some pages of the instructional book have been burnt off — which means players have to deduce what the rules of the Abdec world are with only partial information to work off.
Some similarities to LOK are apparent: Abdec looks to be another adorable word puzzler with challenging mechanics that reward the player that takes their time to experiment and figure things out. Puzzling out how to fit all these packing pieces together — I fill in the spaces like a game of Tetris. Each puzzle comes with its own unique solution and I am further challenged with little Abb creatures strategically placed on various puzzles, as well as letters marking certain points in the puzzle, which help guide me towards the solution.
Unlike LOK where you obtain special powers right off the bat, I find that Abdec encourages me to dig deeper into the story being told through these puzzles, to see how each different piece interacts with the rules and constraints. I would say it adds a layer of difficulty over the baseline that LOK has established.
For a minimum fee of 3 EUR, you can get the PDF and JPG versions of Abdec, alongside the solution file. Abdec is available now on itch.io and the developer’s website.
