Over the weekend Croteam and Devolver Digital revealed a surprise they'd been teasing for a while: a big content expansion for The Talos Principle 2 was announced, with a release date just a week away. Road to Elysium launches this Friday, June 14th, and consists of 3 separate parts that will explore new locales and "dive deeper into the game's world."
Watch the new reveal trailer below to get a look at all 3 worlds that these DLC stories will take you through. (It may be worth noting that elements of the trailer and the descriptions below might contain some minor story spoilers for the main game of Talos 2.)
The 3 sections of the Road to Elysium DLC are:
"Orpheus Ascending," which takes place in an ancient Egypt setting, puts you back in the role of the robot 1K. You'll apparently be entering the mind of another character to "give a happy ending to a tragic story from the world of The Talos Principle 2." There's an intriguing claim that in this section the "classic laser mechanics of the series are pushed to the limit."
"Isle of the Blessed" takes place in a Caribbean island-themed location and prominently features a large puzzle-cube called the Hexahedron: "a large continuous puzzle cluster set in a mysterious crooked tower." Featuring Yaqut as the main character, this section seems to emphasize a "relaxed experience" and "medium-difficulty puzzles."
"Into the Abyss," the final of the 3 DLC sections, happens amongst floating islands in a "glitchy dream world." Here you will "meet the original Elohim and confront your own failures," but perhaps most enticing is the notion that this segment will contain "extremely difficult puzzles that will require all your brainpower to solve."
It sounds to me like Croteam has been pushing the mechanics as far as they can to give fans of the series a real challenge, but it's obvious that this DLC is not light on story/philosophy elements either — very much the mix we've come to expect from Talos Principle games.
The Road to Elysium DLC launches this Friday, June 14th, and you can wishlist it now on Steam.
