Explore a tranquil world of block-pushing puzzles, gaining abilities to traverse puzzles in new ways.
The Legend of Lumina is a short and free block-pushing adventure in which a young hero gathers the powers of seven animals to end the curse affecting the land. You will have to push trunks and stones while using these powers to find your way through a forest where nearly every room is a puzzle. The game combines sokoban puzzles and metroidvania progression into a smart and serene adventure.
The Legend of Lumina has a metroidvania structure, meaning that there is an open world to roam around in, but some areas are inaccessible at the beginning and progressively unlock as you gather new powers. These powers are obtained by reaching one of the seven animals hidden in the forest. Each of them is at the end of a path featuring puzzles revolving around the last power you gained.
The game is combat-free and focuses on exploration. Much like in Isles of Sea and Sky, the puzzles are integrated within the environment. They mostly consist in pushing or rolling trunks and stones to open up new paths. Marble blocks create persistent paths when pushed into water, trunks create fragile ones that can only be used once, cracked stones are destroyed when hit by a rolling pillar... Whichever element you push has specific properties that can be used to interact with the environment.
The Legend of Lumina can get a bit confusing as it is not always easy to find your way inside the forest. The lack of clear objective can also make some puzzles hard to apprehend, but the game has a balanced difficulty curve. It was originally published in 2022 on itch.io for the KB Games Zelda Jam '22, and was later rereleased on Steam in 2024.
