TeenyShire is a short tile-placement game about building a town in a few turns and scoring points from tile proximity rules. Each turn consists in positioning one element on a small grid so that it works in tandem with the elements around it. TeenyShire’s tight gameplay encourages players to come up with optimal placements in as few moves as possible.

There are five types of elements that can be positioned: mountain, tree, deer, castle and house. Each element has a distinct but simple score behavior. TeenyShire gives you 11 turns to work with, and two options per turn as to which element you would like to place on the board. These options also constrain the row or column you can place your tile on. Additionally, the game displays the elements and positions that will be available at the next turn to help you plan your moves.

TeenyShire mainly operates on two different mechanisms for scoring: touching and nearby. For instance, a tree will give you one point for each tree that touches it, i.e. that is directly adjacent to it. And a mountain will give you one point for each tree that’s nearby, i.e. within the 3x3 grid centered on that mountain. The castle tile, however, works differently. The further it is from any house tile, the more points you’ll get from it. Try and build the longest route, but beware of cutting it during the final turns, when your placement options have become scarce.

Overall, it’s a short and fun browser-based game that relies on your device’s emojis to capture the feeling of building the teeniest of shires. The turns are set daily, and they’re the same for everyone playing the game. You have three attempts to improve your score, and you can easily copy and share your results with other players to show off your optimal town.
