My Card Is Better Than Your Card!

My Card Is Better Than Your Card! is a roguelite deckbuilder about sticker collecting. You build cards by adding stickers to them and play them to score points. The colorful, cute aesthetic and extremely flexible card-building mechanics make this a unique and creative entry to the genre.

A game takes place over one school week. You begin by choosing from several starting decks themed around different types of stickers, such as bugs or vehicles. You also start with an empty sticker book. Each day, you progress along a route with several types of events: sandboxes where you can dig up new stickers, shops where you can buy stickers and cards, and card trade offers. Every day ends with a battle against another kid followed by a crafting session where you gain a blank card and have a chance to put stickers on it or rearrange the stickers you have.

In a battle, you have a hand of cards and also a small stash of candy. Every turn, you draw one card, gain one candy, and have the choice to either draw one additional card or gain one additional candy. Playing a card from your hand costs one candy for each sticker on the card (except for stickers that reduce the cost of the card).

Stickers have various effects, such as scoring points, gaining candy, or drawing cards. Moreover, some cards create tokens that appear in the middle of the screen, such as bugs or fish, while other cards score points based on the tokens. The catch is that both players have access to the tokens — you may play a lot of tokens only for your opponent to score points from them.

Your opponent also has a deck of cards and plays them according to exactly the same rules. There’s a score meter which can go either up or down and begins somewhere in the middle. When you score points, the meter goes up; when your opponent scores points, it goes down. The fight ends when the meter goes either all the way up or all the way down.

There are no restrictions on how many stickers you can put on a card, and you can freely rearrange your stickers anytime outside of a battle. This makes the game exceptionally open to finding interesting exploits and synergies, which forms a core part of the game progression strategy.

My Card Is Better Than Your Card! has a cute, neon-colored art style drawn to resemble kids’ art, and the characters and settings are all themed around kids on a playground. This gives the whole game a cute and playful feel.
