Let’s! Revolution! is a turn-based roguelike tactics game about defeating an evil king. You must navigate a minesweeper-like grid of hidden tiles in search of the king while trying to find loot and avoid landing on enemies. Each cartoon character has unique abilities that gives them a distinct gameplay style.

Each level is a procedurally-generated grid of tiles, most of which begin hidden. Tiles can either be empty or contain a road fragment. Empty tiles have a number on them which indicates how many road tiles are adjacent to them. Enemies only appear on road tiles, and the king stands on one of the road’s endpoints.

You can reveal a tile either by moving onto it or by spending energy to use an attack. Choose wisely, since you’ll take damage if you move onto a tile with an enemy. Once revealed, enemies will attack after a certain number of turns and can damage you from anywhere on the map. So the goal is to use logic to determine where enemies are, take them out, and find the king without using up all your energy.

There are three playable characters, each of which has a base version and an unlockable alternate version. Each character’s abilities drastically change the required gameplay style. Some benefit from revealing all the tiles while others benefit from hiding them; some try to kill all the enemies while others try to avoid them. Using the best gameplay style for the character is a big part of the strategy.

Let’s! Revolution! is the first original video game from BUCK and Antfood, but both studios drew on their creative experience in other media. The bright hand-drawn art and upbeat music keep the vibe playful. The cute cartoon heroes have smooth, lifelike animations with lots of character; they all have lore, but it’s kept unobtrusive. The colorful fantasy setting, inspired by Adventure Time and Studio Ghibli movies, is packed with detail that makes even the empty tiles feel full of life.

Once you beat the game, there are five levels of higher difficulty to master, as well as new items and abilities to unlock. There’s plenty to discover within this simple base mechanic.
