Learn about the origins of the cursed artefact in this mystery detective DLC with 3 new whodunits to solve.
Golden Idol Mysteries: The Spider of Lanka is a detective game DLC that expands on The Case of the Golden Idol. The puzzles are presented as fill-in-the-blanks descriptions of illustrated murder cases, with precise solutions to deduce out of thousands of combinations. This DLC broadens the 18th-century setting from the original story, adding three new scenarios to untangle.
As in the base game, The Spider of Lanka allows you to switch between two gameplay views. In Exploring mode, you navigate point-and-click vignettes in search of clues and you collect relevant names and words. In Thinking mode, you use the collected words to complete Mad Libs-style fill-in-the-blank puzzles in order to piece together what happened in the vignette. A hint system is available, although it is still slightly time-consuming to access.
Golden Idol Mysteries: The Spider of Lanka is a prequel that takes place in the same world as The Case of the Golden Idol, but moves the action to a fictional country inspired by India. The three chapters introduce a cast of mostly new characters whose fates are deeply intertwined. As before, every room revolves around one or more deaths, and the player must identify each character and understand who was responsible for the deaths. Additional puzzles include working out the rules to a card game and deciphering coded messages.
The Spider of Lanka provides another couple of hours of engaging puzzles for deduction fans, as well as an additional chapter in the Golden Idol saga.
