Daily Akari is a daily logic puzzle game about lighting up every free space in a grid. Each light you place in the grid will light up all connected spaces in cardinal directions — but you won’t be able to place new lights in these lit up spaces afterwards. The game’s daily format showcases the versatility of the rules and the creativity of puzzle contributors.

In addition to the objective of lighting up every space, Akari grids also feature special blocks marked with either a 1, 2, 3 or 4-sign, or a happy face. A 2-sign, for instance, means that exactly two lights must be placed in the cells adjacent to the sign. Once this condition is met, the sign changes into a happy face, meaning that the block is cleared and no further lights can be placed next to it. A puzzle is solved when every space has been lit up and every sign has been turned into a happy face.

Daily Akari is a digital rendition of the Akari puzzle type that was initially developed by Japanese publisher Nikoli. Singfisher Games designed this web version using bright colors and smooth animations that help to keep track of the state of the puzzle. The game also supports toggling X’s on any unlit cell by using right-click (or long tap on touchscreens). Ruling out light placements this way is indeed essential for many grids. Every puzzle has a unique solution, and guessing is never required.

The difficulty of the puzzles follows a weekly cycle: grids usually start easy on Mondays, and they get harder as the week goes by. Even though the rules never change, puzzle creators have proved that Akari lends itself to many surprising, inventive setups. Maybe a grid relies on a concealed break-in, or on steady incremental steps; maybe the blocks are arranged in a checkered pattern, in a byzantine maze, or in the form of a bird. The puzzle sets are curated so you can explore the many motif quirks and deduction methods Akari has to offer.
