A Case of Fraud is a detective game about solving the murder of a CEO along with an insidious fraud plot. You’ll have to piece together character names and designations in order to construct the organisational chart of a thriving start-up and root out the killer. The game is an approachable take on deduction-based detective gameplay that culminates in a satisfying conclusion.

As a fresh new detective at Debenham Detection, your objective is to piece together various bits of information in order to uncover the mystery behind the death of Christine Pelham, CEO of Zoolingo, and how 3 million dollars vanished from the company’s coffers. Capture photos of suspects, their names, and their designations in order to build the company’s organizational tree.

In view of similar detective games like The Roottrees are Dead and Return of the Obra Dinn, you are given snippets of information to sift through in order to uncover ties between disparate elements. Each document, photograph, and log hold clues that can be interacted with, and are spread across several locations within the company. The game provides a multi-page notebook you can use to keep track of important information. As you uncover more clues, more locations open up.

A Case of Fraud uses uncluttered art and design that give off a corporate aesthetic, and the smooth jazz playing in the background captures the feeling of a private eye poring over documents late into the night. The game provides a hint system in case you get stuck. Most of the game is collecting and piecing together information, with the final puzzle tying everything together. Players must recognise out of place information that will truly bring the killer and the case of fraud to justice.
