Color Gray Games have announced The Spider of Lanka, a surprise DLC expansion to detective murder-mystery game The Case of the Golden Idol. Releasing on May 4th, the DLC features three new cases that explore the origin story of the cursed idol.

Winner of this year’s IGF Excellence in Game Design award (and more importantly, my favorite game of 2022), The Case of the Golden Idol explored the fatal events surrounding a well-to-do British family and their mysterious heirloom. In its newly announced prequel DLC, Golden Idol Mysteries: The Spider of Lanka, we’re taken back to 1741, one year before Albert Cloudsley set those fateful events in motion, following him and Oberon Geller on their expedition to the fictional Kingdom of Lanka.

With three new devilishly clever murder mysteries to solve, players will be rummaging through more delightfully grotesque point-and-click scenes in search of clues to unravel its bizarre and twisted story.

Arriving on Steam on May 4th, Golden Idol Mysteries: The Spider of Lanka will be available for $5.99 and requires the base game in order to play it. I for one cannot wait to have more cases to dive into — and hopefully the DLC’s prefixed title implies there are even more to come!
